First Aid at Work Four-day Course

A Health & Safety Executive approved four-day course that complies with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Approved Code of Practice L74 guidelines
for the qualification of workplace First Aiders.

Who Should Attend? Where an employer has carried out a risk assessment, and identified a need for a fully qualified First Aider, a person should be nominated for training in accordance with the HSE guidance on personnel selection. Potential First Aiders should be of reliable disposition with good communication skills. They should possess an aptitude to absorb new knowledge and skills, and be able to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures. Their normal duties should be such that these may be left to go immediately to an emergency.

Course Content Delegates will receive thorough training in a range of First Aid competencies including:

  • Aims and principles of first aid
  • Prevention of cross-infection during first aid procedures
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded, bleeding or shocked
  • Assessment and treatment of fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
  • Assessment and treatment of burns, poisoning and eye injuries
  • Assessment and treatment of common major and minor illnesses
  • Emergency transport of casualties
  • Legal aspects of first aid at work - Record keeping and use of equipment

Course Outcome On successful completion of the course and final assessment, the delegate will receive the HSE approved, nationally recognised First Aid at Work certificate. This is valid for 3 years.

Appointed Persons First Aid

Who Should Attend? Any member of an organisation who is likely to find themselves taking charge or who has been appointed to take charge of First Aid equipment or during a First Aid emergency, in the absence of a qualified First Aider.

Course Content

Delegates will receive training in a range of First Aid subjects including

Aims and principles of first aid What to do in an emergency Basic Life Support (BLS) Management of the unconscious casualty Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded or bleeding Assessment and treatment of fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries Assessment and treatment of burns Assessment and treatment of miscellaneous medical conditions

Course Outcome On successful completion of the course delegates will receive a certificate of attendance, which is valid for 3 years

In-House Option This course may be delivered on a nationwide basis for up to 15 delegates. This option enables us to provide the course on dates/times dictated by the Client. We are also able to modify the course content to relate to specific areas of risk. Rates are negotiable.
